Flood Relief

More than 20 million people have been affected by the worst flooding in the country's 63-year history and about 1,600 people have died. Thousands of rural communities have been evacuated as more heavy rains continue to deepen the flood crisis. Although many people are using any available means of transportation to migrate to safer places, including walking on foot, there are still some who refuse to leave their crops and homes. The next few days will prove to be extremely critical as forecasts predict more monsoons headed towards populated-areas including Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur and Larkana Districts. Severe impact is also expected on Taluka Ubauro, Mirpur Mathelo and Ghotki. In these communities, thousands of people are still living along road sides and in government schools, cut off from the large areas that are under several feet of water.

The Pakistan Floods of 2010 have been rated as the worst humanitarian crisis by the UN in the recent history, with more people affected than the South-East Asian tsunami and the recent earthquakes in Kashmir and Haiti combined; affecting 20 million people and leaving 1,600 dead.
